Welcome!
Saturday we play, Sunday we learn. Good food, good times, and a bunch of people excited to skillshare.
Saturday, October 15th at 1pm we kick off with a workshop on building flammable scultures out of natural materials. We will create one or more small effigies to burn without using nails or wire, leaving minimal impact to the land.
Around 3-4pm we will begin lighting our cooking fires. Food is not being provided by the event. We ask that folks bring a dish to be cooked on a fire and shared with the group in hopes of creating a micro food festival based around campfire cooking. It may be helpful to team up with friends and bring your offering together. Plates, bowls and silverware are provided, but you will need to bring your own cookware and ingredients.
After dinner we will ignite the sculptures that were made in the workshop and throw a party. Express yourself with an opportunity to share in a talent show. Play musical instruments, tell a joke, share a story or poem, or show off whatever else you’d like. Bring camping chairs or picnic blankets if you can.
Guests are welcome to camp out overnight.
Sunday, October 16th starting at 10am we have a day of skillshare workshops. So far we have presenters willing to share knowledge about bow drill firestarting, hide tanning, mindful mead making, and pine needle basketweaving. Schedule to be determined. Folks are welcome to arrive whatever time suits them, but we will try to wrap things up by 6pm.
Happy Hill, the location for this gathering is a beautiful off-grid homestead bordering the South Anna River in eastern Louisa, Virginia. Being an off grid location means there may not be some of the amenities you are used to, so plan accordingly. There is minimal electricity, plenty of wildlife, and outhouses instead of toilets. I swear they are way better than port-a-potties. There is an abundance of fresh drinking and washing water on site, but it never hurts to bring your own.
This is an all ages gathering, so children are welcomed. In the case of rain the event will be postponed.
Hope to see you soon
